In
July 2007 we went on our long-awaited second Egyptian holiday, which consisted
of a 7 day Nile Cruise and a week in Luxor.
We are Julie and Ray, are in our 50's and are mad about Egypt.
Three years ago we had our first taste of this amazing country and we have been hooked ever since.
Our first Nile cruise wetted our appetite to find out more about the Temples, Tombs and history of the Ancient Egyptians so this time we came prepared with a little bit more knowledge under our belts.
We decided that another cruise would familiarise us with the sites we had seen before, followed by a week based in Luxor to revisit the sites and see some more with our own private guide.
On this website we want to tell anyone who is interested in trying a Nile cruise about our experiences and to offer some of our understanding in straightforward language, and of course to show off some of our photographs
On our first trip to Egypt we had a Nile Cruise and three days in Cairo to see
the pyramids and the famous Cairo Museum. This time we decided to repeat the
cruise because we loved it so much and to spend a second week in Luxor to see
some more of the sights that were not included on the Cruise.
We also wanted to repeat some of the tours from the cruise because we wanted
to see them in more detail as time at each site is limited on the cruise tours.
Although our tour company could arrange tours around Luxor, we prearranged our
trips via the internet through an English Egyptologist who owns tourist flats
on the West Bank of the Nile and also arranges guided tours. (they were also
cheaper)
We booked two weeks in July, and although this is the hottest time of the year
with temperatures reaching up to 50°C, there are less tourists around making
it easier to see the sights.
