Sunday - Day 7

Our last full day in Luxor and it was time to go shopping for presents to take back home. We had got some ideas what to buy for our families but we had been reluctant to go around the market because of the pressure forced on us by the local shopkeepers. At the front of the hotel there was a gift shop and there were also a couple more nearer the entrance.

Front of New Winter Palace Hotel We went into the first shop and the owner said we could look around without being hassled. We chatted to him and we eventually bought some souvenirs. We then went around the corner to the local shop that sold the Egyptian perfumes. We had decided to buy some of these for some of our family, how to pack all these things into the suitcases was another problem I would think about later.

Whilst we were in the shop, a young couple came in who we had met at Manchester airport on our way out to Egypt. They had gone to Cairo first and then on to the Red Sea before returning to Luxor. We started talking to them and they also bought some gifts. We were talking about food and we told them about the restaurant we went to. We arranged to meet them later and take them with us.

When we met the young couple later we were chatting and by a strange coincidence the girl was a nurse and worked at a hospital that I used to work in years ago. Her boyfriend was studying computer science and Ray works with computers.

We had an enjoyable evening reminiscing and talking about the wonders of Egypt and while we were at the restaurant we took some beautiful photographs of the sun setting over the Nile.
We then wandered back to the hotel to have our last nightcap and listen to the resident singer for the last time.
